Posted January 19, 2022

Sandjar Kozubaev, Ph.D. candidate in digital media, and Associate Professor Carl DiSalvo, who has a courtesy appointment in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, released a co-authored paper at the 2021 Ethnographic Praxis in Industry Conference (EPIC). The 2021 EPIC conference was held virtually from Oct. 11-21, 2021.

The paper, titled “Futures in Things: Locating the Promise of Infrastructures in Public Libraries," reports on a qualitative study of librarians in a U.S. urban public library system. It analyzes “the future of the library” using three main examples— the circulation desk, the bookshelf, and the self-check machine—to show how they illustrate narratives and expectations about the future of libraries.

The article is available to read for free on the EPIC website.

The Digital Media program is a unit in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication offering a Master of Science and Ph.D.
