Sixty-five cadets and midshipmen from Georgia Tech ROTC programs were recognized for scholastic achievements and leadership excellence at the annual ROTC Joint Awards ceremony held April 5 at the John Lewis Student Center's Atlantic Theater.
The honorees include students from Georgia Tech and other metro Atlanta colleges and universities that feed into Georgia Tech's Army, Navy, and Air Force ROTC programs. The ROTC programs fall under the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at Georgia Tech and hosts over 250 midshipmen and cadets from around the country.
Among the recipients was Army ROTC Cadet Alfred Biland, who received the Tyler Hall Brown ROTC Endowment Scholarship.
This competitive scholarship is presented each year to a cadet or midshipman who demonstrates outstanding leadership. Each ROTC unit submits a nominee and a board is held to determine the winner.
The Tyler Hall Brown ROTC Endowment Scholarship is presented annually in honor of Lt. Tyler Hall Brown, a 2001 Georgia Tech alumnus who served as president of the Student Government Association and was an outstanding Army ROTC cadet. Following his graduation, he became a Ranger and was killed by enemy gunfire in Al Ramadi, Iraq, in 2004.
The Tyler Brown Pi Mile campus running route is named in his honor. As SGA president, Brown laid the groundwork that led to the path’s creation in 2005.
