Current students should discuss eligibility, requirements, and the selection process for these awards with an advisor or undergraduate program director in their school.
I was able to get three scholarships to cover my entire eight weeks in China as a part of LBAT! I received the Campoamor Scholarship (Modern Languages), the Gilman Scholarship (U.S. State Department), and the Freeman-Asia Scholarship (Freeman Foundation).

School of Economics
- The Outstanding Economics Student Award is presented to the Economics’ major that demonstrates not only outstanding scholarship but also service to the School of Economics. The award consists of $300 and a certificate.
- The Omicron Delta Epsilon Outstanding Senior Cup is presented by Omicron Delta Epsilon and the School of Economics to the ODE graduating senior who achieves the best overall academic record. The award consists of $150.00 and a cup.
- The Mollie Newton Award for Excellence in Economics is named in honor of the late Mollie Newton. This award is presented to the senior who has contributed to the School of Economics in academics, leadership, and service. The award consists of $400 and a plaque. Dr. David Laband, Chair, School of Economics, will present the award.
School of History and Sociology
- The Bellon Award is given in memory of the late professor Dr. Bernard P. Bellon to a BS- HTS student who has distinguished him/herself in the areas of academic achievement, leadership, research, and personal integrity. Preference is given to a student who is in the third year or above in the HTS major. Nominations of students by HSOC faculty are due in February each year, and the prize is given at the annual Georgia Tech Student Honors Luncheon and Award Ceremony. The Bellon Award includes a cash prize of $1,000.
- The Bellon Scholarship is given to an incoming first year student in memory of the late professor Dr. Bernard P. Bellon. The award recognizes a student who has distinguished him/herself in the areas of academic achievement, leadership, research, and personal integrity during the high school years.
- Preference is given to individuals who have made a significant positive impact in their communities, first-generation college students, and/or students from under-represented minority groups. The Bellon Scholarship includes a one-time cash award of $1,000.
- The Chair's Award is given each spring to the HTS major who has written the best research paper in the prior academic year. Papers are nominated by faculty members in April, and then reviewed by a faculty committee to select the winner. Quality of the research, quality of the writing, strength of the analysis, and originality form the basis of the review criteria. The Chair's Award includes a cash prize of $250.
Sam Nunn School of International Affairs
- The Olympic Envoy Legacy Award commemorates the activities of the participants in the 1996 Olympic Envoy Program. It is given annually to a junior or senior International Affairs or International Affairs/Modern Language major to reward excellence in scholarship, leadership, and community service. The award includes a check for $1,000.
School of Literature, Media, and Communication
- The William Gilmer Perry Award is presented by the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC) to the freshman who has written the best paper in an English 1101 or 1102 class. The award is $100. Recipients are chosen by the School of Literature, Media, and Communication.
- The James Dean Young Award recognizes the best essay written by a LMC or Computational Media major in a 3000- or 4000-level course. The award is $500. Recipients are chosen by the School of Literature, Media, and Communication. Contact Carol Senf for additional information.
School of Modern Languages
- The Modern Languages' Campoamor Scholarship, which averages between $400 and $500,is made possible from a generous endowment established by former Modern Languages professor Joseph A. Campoamor. The scholarship is given out each year to several Georgia Tech students studying abroad. Applications are due each year by April 1. Please turn in your completed application to Dr. Britta Kallin. You can also leave your application for her at the front office of the School of Modern Languages.
- The Coca-Cola Foundation Scholarships is a grant that will provide 30 scholarships of 6,000 to students studying abroad in China over the next four years. This is made possible by the Coca-Cola Foundation, which has awarded $200,000 to Georgia Tech, thanks to a collaborative effort by the Office of International Education, the School of Modern Languages, the Office of Minority Educational Development and the Office of Financial Aid.
- Project Go provides 5,000 dollar scholarships to ROTC students from Georgia Tech and other participating universities to study abroad in programs related to the study of Arabic, Chinese, Korean or Russian. The scholarship can be applied to the LBAT program.
- Various German Scholarships are provided by program sponsors aimed towards students who plan to participate in the German LBAT program (about 12 scholarships) and those wishing to spend a semester abroad at a Georgia Tech partner institution in Germany (6 scholarships at $3000 each).
