Sashti Awarded Fulbright Specialist Grant
Posted January 26, 2018
Raj Sashti, advisor for Fellowships and Sponsored Programs at the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Institute of Technology, was awarded a Fulbright Specialist grant during fall 2017. This prestigious award enabled him to serve as an academic and professional expert to 15 universities in Thailand, including the nationally and internationally recognized Chulalongkorn University and the Asian Institute of Technology, and assist them with capacity building in the area of international education and exchange.
During the course of his visit to Thailand, Sashti was able to exchange ideas with academics in leadership positions including presidents and deans, give presentations to students and faculty members regarding Fulbright and other externally funded opportunities for study, travel and research in the U.S., and shared with them “best practices” on how to prepare competitive applications for fellowships and grants. In addition, he engaged in discussions for potential collaboration between universities and Thailand and the U.S. based on mutual fit and was invited to serve as a guest speaker on such topics as “Intended and Unintended Consequences of Globalization,” and an “Introduction to American Higher Education.”
A recipient of Fulbright Fellowships to Germany, Japan, and Brazil, since joining the Nunn School in Fall 2015, Sashti has assisted students to secure Fulbright and other fellowships and raised the visibility of the Nunn School with the Atlanta Consular Corps.
Funded by the J. William Fulbright Board of Foreign Scholarships and the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright Specialist Program provides highly competitive, merit-based grants to qualified U.S. faculty and professionals in selected disciplines to engage in short-term collaborative projects. The program also strives to promote mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and other countries.
The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs is part of Georgia Tech’s Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
