Genevieve Onyiuke-Kennedy Wins 2020 Southeastern Writing Center Undergraduate Peer Tutor of the Year Award

Genevieve Onyiuke-Kennedy, a third-year undergraduate student in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs and tutor with the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts's Naugle Communication Center (CommLab), has won the 2020 Southeastern Writing Center Undergraduate Peer Tutor of the Year Award.

Onyiuke-Kennedy is the third Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts student to win the award, after Kiran Rampersad (School of Economics) won in 2015 and Keely Mruk (School of History and Sociology) won in 2019.

The Undergraduate Peer Tutor of the Year Award is one of the most competitive in the field, and Onyiuke-Kennedy was in a pool of more than 20 other highly-qualified candidates, many of whom plan to pursue further studies in writing center research.

"Genny is the perfect example of a servant leader—always focused on the needs of those around her and creating communities of service that are both effective and inspiring," CommLab Executive Director Karen Head said. "Her focus on inclusivity and diversity has made CommLab stronger in every aspect of our work. Her enthusiasm knows no bounds.

In addition to tutoring, CommLab, hosted in the School of Literature, Media and Communication, offers an array of communication-related services to students and faculty including rehearsal rooms, topic workshops, copy editing assistance, and collaborative work spaces.
