LMC Hosts Homecoming Open House

Posted November 1, 2017

The School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC) at Georgia Institute of Technology hosted a homecoming Open House on Friday, October 20, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the Skiles building, 3rd floor. The event served as a homecoming kickoff for LMC alumni, and also served as an opportunity to showcase new initiatives in LMC, including several new humanities-centered spaces that encourage student, faculty, and community collaboration.

One of these new spaces, the LMC CoLab, located in Skiles 340, is a creativity and career origination lab, featuring computer workstations and a small gallery that serves as a rolling exhibit space, often highlighting artwork and material from classes and programs within LMC.

The open house featured a new exhibit on the history of DramaTech, celebrating the theater’s 70th anniversary. Students, alumni, and faculty also gathered in the new CoHub, in Skiles 338 across from the LMC CoLab. CoHub serves as a meeting space for alumni and will be home to future community outreach-centered activities.

Additional new LMC spaces highlighted during the event included the Digital Integrative Liberal Arts Center (DILAC), which is a dynamic and innovative space for digital projects; the new publication office for Atlanta Review (a prize winning international poetry journal); the SciFi lab; the Studio A Video Production Lab; and the Hiphop Archive and Maker Space providing ample opportunities for students to converge. Also highlighted was a new lounge that is being developed for LMC and Computational Media students.

LMC uses these spaces to encourage creativity and collaboration among students, faculty, alumni, and community partners.

Coming up November 16, the School will host an alumni dinner at the Wardlaw Center. The new spaces will be showcased, along with collaborative work by LMC alumni.

The School of Literature, Media, and Communication is a unit of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
