Photo Exhibition Celebrates 70 Years of DramaTech

Posted February 5, 2018

A new photography exhibit celebrates 70 years of student-run theater at the Georgia Institute of Technology through the lens of its three most influential directors, Mary Nell Santacroce, Gregory Abbott, and Melissa Foulger.

The exhibit at the CoLab, part of the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, features a variety of archival images, as well as more recent pictures captured by longtime DramaTech photographer Michael Boatright.

The exhibition focuses on the contributions of Santacroce, DramaTech’s first long-lasting artistic director, Gregory Abbott, who served as artistic director for 22 years, and its current director, Melissa Foulger.

“The images shown in the exhibit show how there is a rich tradition of theatre on Tech’s campus,” said Foulger, who has been DramaTech’s artistic director for 10 years.

Founded in 1947, DramaTech Theatre is Atlanta’s longest continually running theater and offers a thriving theatrical laboratory environment that enriches the greater Atlanta community through innovative and diverse live performances.

Housed in the Dean Dull Theatre in the Ferst Center for the Arts, DramaTech produces five full length productions each year as well as a variety show and regular performances by their improv troupe, Let’s Try This!

“We continue to innovate in the work that we do, always pushing to do better and provide the best quality work that we can,” Foulger said. “The high standard set in our past impacts our current set of values about the creation of theater and pushes us to continue to do better with each show we do.”
