Eight Ivan Allen College Students Selected for Internships at Georgia State Capitol

Posted November 25, 2019

Eight students representing three of the six Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts schools were recently selected for the 2020 Georgia Legislative Internship Program (GLIP), furthering the College's consistent representation in the program.

The internship will begin in early January, and will continue approximately 12 to 16 weeks from January to April, depending on the length of the state legislative session. These are full-time, paid internships. During the course of the internship, students work in offices in and around the Georgia State Capitol in downtown Atlanta.

With eight students from the Ivan Allen College accepted into the 2020 GLIP, we comprise the majority of the 10 Georgia Institute of Technology students in this year's program, which admits approximately 30 students every year from universities around the state.

The 2020 Ivan Allen GLIP interns are:

  • Casey Barton - Public Policy
  • Jackson Caruso - Public Policy
  • Jack Dellapenna - Public Policy
  • Jack Fortune - Public Policy
  • Hanka Kirby - Public Policy
  • Allie-Grace Mock - Literature, Media, and Communication
  • Kayli Moody - International Affairs
  • Henry Tharpe - International Affairs

Most interns are assigned to work for a standing committee in either the House or Senate, while a few may be assigned to legislative staff offices.

Students get the opportunity to take on important legislative responsiblities, such as handling research bills or issues before the General Assembly, working with a legislative committee, and monitoring the progress of legislation. Above all, these interns benefit from the valuable opportunity to witness the lawmaking process firsthand.
