Jennifer Nicholas, a second-year Ph.D. student in the School of History and Sociology, has been awarded a Herbert P. Haley Fellowship in recognition of her academic accomplishments.
The fellowship, a one-time merit award of $4,000, goes to a handful of the most highly qualified graduate students in each Georgia Tech college.
“It's an incredible honor and I am truly thankful for the HSOC community's supportive environment, which has really helped me thrive in graduate study," Nicholas said.
Nicholas' research explores the relationship between adolescent mental health and media. She's particularly interested in the effects of social media and the increasing use of interactive artificial intelligence on the mental well-being of teenagers.
Among other things, Nicholas is examining the effects of Florida LGBTQ legislation on high school culture and student experience.
Her previous academic awards include the President's Fellowship and the Georgia Tech Institute Fellowship.
