Students in Japan Program Solve Real World Problems in Sustainability

The 10-week Japan Summer Program, which is generously funded by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Georgia Tech’s Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain, allows students to study sustainable development in Tokyo. This program provides students with the opportunities to solve real world problems in sustainability. Brian Woodall, professor from the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs is the program director.

Borenstein Appointed Editorial Board Leader for NAE Research Ethics Center

Kosal Participates in Halcyon Dialogue on Robotics and Autonomy

Kosal recently participated in a closed-door discussion on emerging legal, legislative, and security issues at the intersection of robotics, autonomy, machine learning, and policy. Kosal spoke on the strategic role for robotics and autonomous systems in national and international security, including for deterrence.

Sung Wins the Best Presentation Award at the Technology Management and Policy Graduate Consortium

Elie Sung, a doctoral student at Georgia Tech, recently won the Best Presentation Award at the Technology Management and Policy Graduate Consortium at Stony Brook University on Long Island’s North Shore.
This is quite an honor for Sung, as the stakes were notably high. Competing against over 20 other papers from students representing other prestigious institutions such as Carnegie Mellon, Cambridge, and MIT, Sung managed to break through to the top for the Best Presentation Award. Her paper, titled “Evaluation of a Policy Change Weakening Patents and Its Effect on Firm Strategy,” bested several other presentations from many of the world’s best and brightest fellow doctoral students.

Smith Named to Inaugural Shaw Professorship In Sports, Society, and Technology

The University System of Georgia Board of Regents approved the creation of the Julius C. “Bud” Shaw Professorship in Sports, Society, and Technology. The board also approved the appointment of Johnny Smith, assistant professor in the School of History and Sociology, as the inaugural holder of the Shaw Professorship.
