• Georgia Tech Course Selected for NAE’s Book on Exemplary Engineering Ethics Programs

  An ongoing project in undergraduate course design by Georgia Tech public policy professor Robert Kirkman is one of 25 “exemplary” programs showcased by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Center for Engineering Ethics and Society (CEES) in a new report, Infusing Ethics into the Development of Engineers.

• In Memoriam: Maxine Thompson Turner

  Maxine Turner broke barriers in joining Georgia Tech as one of its first women faculty in the 1960s. She was a pioneer in seeking equity on campus for women and minority students and in the development of a technical communications program at Georgia Tech.

• Freshman Marcus Marshall Named to All-ACC Academic Football Team

  Marcus Marshall, a freshman undeclared major in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, recently was selected to be part of the 2015 All-ACC Academic Football Team.

  

• College Faculty Receive Course Survey Teaching Effectiveness Award

  Six faculty members in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts were selected to receive the Class of 1940 Course Survey Teaching Effectiveness Award for the 2014-2015 academic year. The awards are based upon student surveys.

• Winnefeld Discusses Military Acquisition Reform in Testimony for House Armed Services Committee

  Admiral James “Sandy” Winnefeld, former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a distinguished professor in the Georgia Tech Ivan Allen College Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, testified in front of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee on February 10.

  

• Calm Down – The Supreme Court’s “Stay” on the Clean Power Plan is Just a Procedural Step

  On February 9th, 2016, the U.S. Supreme Court halted implementing the Clean Power Plan, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s regulation of carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.

  

• Leiden Manifesto Codifies Best Practices for Metrics-based Research Assessment

  February 10, 2016

  To support researchers and managers, five experts led by Diana Hicks, professor in the School of Public Policy at Georgia Institute of Technology, proposed ten principles for the measurement of research performance: the Leiden Manifesto for Research Metrics. Published as commentary in Nature in July 2015, the principles are being circulated around the world. A video summarizing the principles is available and it has been published in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts Leading Edge Digital Publications Series.

• Digital Media Students Launch Different Games Collective to Foster Diversity and Inclusivity in Gaming Community

  Two graduate students in the Digital Media program in the Georgia Tech Ivan Allen College School of Literature, Media, and Communication are collaborating with Ivan Allen College alumni and graduate students at other universities to make the gaming community more inclusive in Atlanta and beyond.

• Byung-Cheol Kim Receives Young Economist Award

  Byung-Cheol Kim, professor in the School of Economics, received the 2015 Korea-America Economic Association Young Scholar Award and was named a future leading scholar in economics.

  

• Westside Communities Alliance Unveils Interactive Data Dashboard

  The Westside Communities Alliance (WCA) at Georgia Tech introduced a comprehensive interactive Data Dashboard for Atlanta on February 1.

  The WCA Data Dashboard serves as a one-stop shop for key data that is accessible to community stakeholders, researchers, local government agencies, and relevant foundations interested in sustainable Westside community development. 

  

• Ivan Allen College Applications and Enrollments Are Up

  February 1, 2016

  A more aggressive admissions policy for students applying to liberal arts at Georgia Tech yielded a 2 percent increase in fall 2015 freshman enrollment for the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, the first increase in five years.

  

• Sports On Film Series

  February 1, 2016

  The Sports, Society and Technology program of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts and the Georgia Tech Office of the Arts present Sports on Film, a series of sports films that will be held in the Student Center Theater. Reflecting this year’s Arts@Tech theme of “Get Your Game On,” the program is free and open to the public.
