he/him/hisDr. Calvin Zimmermann’s obtained a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania. His major fields of interest are the sociology of education and sociology of race and ethnicity. Specifically, his research focuses on the causes and consequences of racial inequalities in education using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Much of his work aims to understand how school policies and practices perpetuate and/or reduce racial inequalities in early childhood education. His current research focuses on alternative educational spaces (e.g., microschools; homeschooling co-ops) that serve Black children and youth.
