Steve Hodges
Director of Information Technology
- Ivan Allen Dean's Office
- Digital Integrative Liberal Arts Center
Overview
Steve Hodges is Director of Information Technology for Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at Georgia Institute of Technology. In this role he is responsible for three main areas of IT:
- Supporting centrally provided IT tools ("Standard IT")
- Supplementing centrally provided tools where gaps exist ("Extended IT")
- Addressing IT needs in humanities and social sciences computing ("Disciplinary IT")
These categories are in order of increasing specificity to Ivan Allen College but are all important -- in this sense, they form something of a "Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs" for IT: Ivan Allen College cannot engage in creative work in humanities and social sciences computing (Disciplinary IT) unless the most basic IT needs (Standard IT) are met first.
For Ivan Allen College, Disciplinary IT includes topics such as digital humanities, statistical computing, digital media, technology connections with writing curriculum, archival technology, and others.
Hodges is former chair of GT-wide IT community organization ITAC (Information Technology Advisory Community) and current co-chair of OneIT. He holds a Ph.D. in Digital Media from Georgia Institute of Technology (dissertation "The Digital Absurd"), and a B.S. in Mathematics and B.A. in History.
