Bettina Cothran

Dr. Bettina F. Cothran is a Professor of German in the School of Modern Languages., and the Associate Chair for International Programs. She received her PhD from the University of Wuppertal. She serves as Director of the German LBAT program, as Director of the International Plan for Modern Languages, and advisor for the German group. She is the editor of the "Handbook for German in Business and Technology" and "The Global Connection: Issues in Business German," as well as co-editor of the volume "Languages and Culture Out of Bounds: Discipline-Blurred Perspectives on the Foreign Language Classroom."  Book chapters include "Integratives Lernen in Deutsch als Fremd- und Zweitsprache," published in 2015 by the Hueber Verlag in the volume "Sprache und Fach – Integriertes Lernen in der Zielsprache Deutsch, edited by Kim Hataaja and Rainer Wicke,  and "Germanistische Studiengänge im globalen Kontext: Programme und Perspektiven in den USA ," published  in 2010 by the Universitätsverlag Göttingen in the volume Entwicklungstendenzen germanistischer Studiengänge im Ausland, edited by Annegret Middeke.  

Dr. Cothran is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences; in 2014/15, she presented at conferences organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Annual Colloquium on Engineering Education organized by the University of Rhode Island, the 16th CIBER Business Language Conference  and  the  XIII. Kongress der Internationalen Vereinigung für Germanistik, organized in 2015 by the Tongji University: Shanghai, China,

She received Georgia Tech's Outstanding Teacher of the Year award in 1993, the AATG Georgia Professor of the Year Award in 1991 and 2001 and the Roe E. Stamps Outstanding Teacher Award in 2004.  In 2014, the German LBAT program was selected for inclusion in a project funded by the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, of exemplary innovative and integrative German programs [CLILiG].
