Distributional Learning of Syntactic Generalization
Join us for a webinar presented by the School of Modern Languages on Monday, Nov. 4, from 2 – 3:00 p.m. EST.
Daoxin Li, a postdoctoral fellow at the Infant and Child Development Center of Northwestern University, will discuss her research on the cognitive and computational mechanisms of language acquisition.
Languages differ regarding recursive structures' depth, structure, and syntactic domains. Even within a single language, some structures allow infinite self-embedding while others are more restricted.
How do children discover the grammar of their language? Why do children seem to be better at language learning than adults? What is the relationship between language acquisition and other cognitive abilities?
